I am a music writer and PhD musicologist from Tennessee, living in Hamburg, Germany.
My interests range from 16th century polyphony and 19th-century symphonies to American roots music, punk, and hip hop. Read my concert and show reviews from Hamburg and other locations, along with record critiques, artist profiles, articles, and thoughts, all regularly updated.
If you represent a publication, venue, record label, group, music festival, or band, you can find details on hiring me for program notes, press releases, articles, newsletters, blog posts, or other music-related writing.
Services
Program Notes
Program notes are an ideal way to let the audience in on some of those choices to guide their listening and grease the wheels of communication.
Reviews
Point audiences in the direction of acts who aren’t getting as much attention as they should, or, if it comes to that, to warn audiences away from acts who they feel aren’t quite living up to their promises.
Liner Notes
If you’re releasing an album, compiling a thematic compilation, or preparing a re-release of a wrongly forgotten classic, I would love to write liner notes for you.
Articles, Essays, and Think Pieces
Longer pieces of descriptive writing that require extensive research and/or interviews to complete offer the opportunity for a deeper and more thorough exploration of a topic.
Press Releases
Make sure that people hear about what you’re doing, and also to take control over the conversation surrounding your work, so that the story people hear about you is the one you want to tell about yourself.
Speaking engagements
If you have an interested audience, whatever their age, background and level of expertise, and whatever music they’re interested in, I would love to come and speak to them. Contact me to discuss details.
